TurboTax Deluxe 2002
Amazon.com Review
For most users, TurboTax Deluxe 2002 will make April 15 just another day. This incarnation of the most popular tax-preparation title is as streamlined and simple as before, and its integration with Quicken is better than ever. Intuit has striven to make the software easy to use even for those with an aversion to both tax forms and computers. The wizard-based system guides users through each step with plenty of context-sensitive advice. Installation of TurboTax is jus... More >>

As a firm believer in anti piracy of software and other intellectual capital I have no problems at all with activation on one computer. Keeping a data backup (which is completely trivial) is a fundamental of computer use and avoids the need to install on multiple computers. Just look for the .txf file and save it to a floppy disk or one of dozens of online or offline means. For an [inexpensibe] product if there really is a need to have on more than one computer I’d suggest buying another copy.
I worry that many of those who have concerns with activation on only one computer really want to share the software with others. This is illegal and I don’t blame software companies for wanting to protect their IP.
(No, I don’t work for Intuit, but have been a happy customer using TurboTax since 1994).

There is no comparison between TurboTax and TaxCut. How can anyone say TaxCut is better??? TurboTax if far superior. If you want to save time and money the only way to go is Turbotax.

This product keeps getting better. We still get our copy of Ernst & Young tax book as a reference, but TurboTax is getting better all the time. We did ours by hand for many years, before converting to doing both by hand and electronically. Last year was the first year we only did it electronically (even just a few years ago, most of the tax software was not adequate). This year, we are using TurboTax again, after reviewing the competition. Some minor improvements in forms being easier to access have made this year’s a little better.

This is the 4th consecutive year that I’ve used TurboTax. It will not be my last.
Installation is simple. Just pop in the CD and it installs itself. Then connect to the internet and register the product. What a breeze!
The data entry process is very well constructed. The software guides you along by asking questions, kind of like a tax interview. Respond to the questions by clicking yes or no, and then input the appropriate dollar amounts. If you have questions while using the software, there are plenty of videos and easy-to-understand help files that will answer most of your questions. You can always go to the IRS website to get anything else you need.
As you input your tax information, you can see how your tax liability or refund is affected. The amount is always displayed in the upper right-hand corner. Pretty cool.
In the past, it has taken me about an hour to complete my tax return. It would take even less time if I didn’t trade stocks or itemize.
Since the tax laws were subject to change up until the end of the year, you’ll need to download an update to the software. TT Deluxe has a very simple process for obtaining updates. Select the pull-down menu to start the update process and it takes care of itself.
I really like this software! I tried using a competing product 4 years ago and found their software to be inferior to Intuit’s.

I’ve been using Turbo Tax Deluxe for years and am very happy with it. It is easy to use, provides good explanations, and plenty of help. With Turbo Tax, I feel very comfortable that I’ve properly filed all the necessary forms.
As for the people complaining that they can’t install it on multiple computers–well what do you expect? In this age of easy software piracy, companies have to do what they can to protect their products. They are in business to make money, you know. Do you complain because you need a specific key to start a car, thus preventing you from driving any one you see parked on the street? Of course not. So get over the software protection issue. This is a great product!
